Moss, cedar, and room to wander

Hiking & Forest Walks

Choose a South Whidbey forest walk by length, trail character, pass requirements, weather exposure, and current land-manager alerts.

South Whidbey walking is more forest network than summit hiking. Putney Woods, Saratoga Woods, Trillium Community Forest, South Whidbey State Park, Greenbank Farm, and Earth Sanctuary offer very different versions of a low-elevation outing.

Choose by experience

  • Old-growth atmosphere and park facilities: South Whidbey State Park. It is day-use, requires a Discover Pass for parking, allows leashed dogs, and currently lists a partial Wilbert Trail closure.
  • Community forest network: Putney/Saratoga and Trillium. Download the land-manager map before leaving reliable service.
  • Quiet paid nature reserve: Earth Sanctuary. Daylight access, a per-person fee, and no dogs.
  • Fields and views: Greenbank Farm. Check current tenant hours separately from trail access.

Before setting out

Use the official land manager for closures and rules. Save a map, carry water, and expect mud or slick roots after rain. Rural trailheads can have small lots; keep a second nearby option.
